The medical file of musician James Last (82) reads just like a never-ending story. For more than 30 years, the popular band leader lives with the vicious threat of cancer. On and within his nose, the cancer persists tenaciously.

In 1982, skin cancer was diagnosed for him for the first time. In 2005, four cancer tumours had to be cut out of his face. One of the tumours proliferated so intensely that James Last would not recognise himself in the mirror.

In 2008, his wife Christine discovered a swelling on his back; he had it operated immediately. Fortunately, the cancer had not spread at that time.

Every time the basal cell cancer gets back, James Last has his nose irradiated in a cancer clinic. That has helped, thankfully. Just as positive thinking and the love of his wife Christine.
